Video Games - Rest, Relaxation and Motivation

Playing video games can actually have a benefit for those who have stressful lives. The interaction of the game can take your mind off troubles that may be helping you to develop an ulcer in your everyday life. With today's fast paced lifestyles, everyone want everything done right now. Giving yourself a break from the demands that are made on a daily basis can have great benefits.

Playing video games allows you to enter another world. This will get your mind off the things that may be stressing you in real life. Forgetting that you have a boss that seems to do nothing but make demands can be easier when you are concentrating on something else. The more involved you become in the video game, the less time you have to dwell on the stressful situations.

Leaving all the problems and demands behind for a while can be very resting to the mind and body. You will not have time to think about the things that are troubling you. When you are concentrating on the best strategy to use to win the game your mind is on something else entirely.

Video games let you feel in charge, depending on the role playing involved with the game. The take-charge hero is a good role for those that are dealing with stressful situations, and it can help you feel in control of your life by taking control of other things, such as your character and the situation in the video game.

This is also beneficial for children. There are some children who do not seem to fit in with others very well. They may just be shy or they are not popular. When they play video games, they are in charge and the sense of power may help to boost their confidence levels. This in turn may help with situations they face in reality. It may help them to find friends who have the same interests.

Video games may also be beneficial for improving a child's concentration because focusing on the game helps them to become more results-oriented. If they can transfer these lessons into real life situations, they will improve in school and other areas of their lives.

The sense of accomplishment is a benefit that children and adults both get from playing video games. The more levels of a game they master, the better they feel about mastering situations in their real life, which can build confidence. Feeling good about yourself can help you handle situations you face every day.

Mentally challenging video games seem more plentiful today and they challenge the user to become more skilled. Patience and perseverance comes with each level that gets more difficult to master, but practice makes perfect, which is a good lesson for children and adults.

Leaving behind problems and stress are part of entering another world that video games provide. The rest and relaxation you experience for a while comes from entering another place, which gives you a much needed break from the everyday stress and fatigue. Video games can provide a welcome break and leave you feeling ready to conquer a new day.

The Rolling Stones

While many people consider the Beatles the greatest rock band of all time, and they might just be, there is a justifiable debate on which band is the second greatest. While there are fans that would debate the pros and cons of such bands as Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin and even The Who, for many people, The Stones are the greatest band of all time.

For many, the band even eclipses the Beatles as the greatest band ever. While that may be up to debate and I wouldn't consider it the case because of the influence and originality and popularity of The Beatles, the Stones are still a very influential and important band.

Both bands had the majority of their hits, and released their greatest albums prior to the'70s, but both have continued to release new music over the decades since. Just turn on a classic rock station on the radio, and you won't need to listen long to hear one hit song or another by either of these bands. And both bands have had a tremendous impact on many of the rock bands that became popular in the years and decades that have past since they both came on the scene.

In the'60s The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were every where, from the radio to the Ed Sullivan show, from a 45 in the living room to the some of the largest concert venues in the world. The Beatles performed more of a pop rock style of music in their early albums, and then progressed to a more complex, and eclectic sound after they spent time in India, and also grew in their own personal lives. The Rolling Stones were influenced by early American rock, primarily by African-American artists, as well as blues and jazz. The styles of music created by these two iconic bands differed greatly, but both continue to be extremely successful.

The Beatles made the choice to call it quits when they were at the top of their game, at their most popular, fueling the fire with the consumers for the next four decades because they couldn't get enough of them. The Stones went the other way and continued making records and touring well past their creative prime. This can be good and bad. Bad because you never want to see a band or athlete or anyone with talent performing at anything less than 100%, but good in the fact that the fans still got to see the band. I am sure that there are millions of fans that would kill to see The Beatles at 50% of their abilities.

Excite Truck - Great Wii Experience

by Patrick Daniels

Wii has a lot of interesting fun games in their inventory, including racing. By far the best racing game for all the home video consoles is Excite Truck. If you like racing sims that's fine, but my preference is an arcade racer.

The Playstation 3 game Burnout Paradise is one of my favorite arcade type racer which is what Excite Truck is on the Wii. The developers at Wii brought a good sense of speed from the less powerful game console. The levels bring different challenges, and then the most fun is playing with a friend in split screen mode, and that's the classic arcade mode.

The remote is used like a steering wheel, you turn it sideways and go back and forth. This puts the motion controls into play, these are crucial to the game, they're not just fluff.

If not for the great motion controls this game might not be as good as it is. It helps make the game extreme fun as these controls are better than releases after this. The control scheme helps keep the game moving, if they weren't as good it might become boring as you'd run through the tracks too fast.

Playing with a friend brings out the best of this game. You work on learning the motion controls so you can earn stars and open new tracks. Driving dangerously rewards you by unlocking more areas, so this game is very fun as there are lots of options.

Wii Fit Is Fun

by Patrick Daniels

Wii Fit isn't really a game, it's an interactive program designed to help you move and track the time you do move. It leans into the fitness realm but it's not going to take the place of regular workouts and making good food choices. It will help you enjoy the time you work with it as it's an enjoyable way to move.

It starts out by using your Mii in the game and determines your size and weight. It then reflects its findings to your Mii. My Mii puffed up and got a lot chubbier than when I first designed it. It was a little depressing, but it was only supposed to help me visualize what I was trying to do. Then the game takes you through a series of exercises like walking and step aerobics and balancing and then you can unlock some fun little mini games like ski jumping and tight rope walking. These games all have something to do with balance and agility.

Most of the exercises are not hard, so that most people can participate, but that's not true of the yoga. It is fairly difficult for someone with no yoga background. As you choose different games it maintains a clock and memory of what you've done. As you participate in different exercises it opens more games and activities for you to try.

The board that comes with Wii Fit is used for many different things, it starts by doing the weight and balance thing. Then you use it different ways for different games, it's not to jump on but to stand and step. It measures your leaning in games like snowboarding, skiing and skateboarding, and if you're too far you'll crash.

There are some cool mini games on Wii Fit, but I think that my favorite is the ski jump, where you ski down a long ramp; keeping yourself centered on the board and then pushes off at the end of the ramp to get as much altitude and distance as possible. It is kind of addicting and I kept finding myself trying to break my own distance record. It actually has benefits because it replicates an exercise called a squat.

A New Season for 30 Rock

by Patrick Daniels

30 Rock is one of the most popular shows on television. It is the top two or three comedys on NBC, just behind The Office in popularity. It has entered its fourth season and is just as good as the first season. It is available on DVD, seasons 1 through 3 and is one of the best television shows worthy of adding to your collection.

This show is about a TV show shot at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The lead character is Liz Lemon who's played by Tina Fey who is a creator and writer of the show. Her character has minimum social niceties, is charged as head writer with keeping the rest of the characters out of trouble, and she's a workaholic.

Alec Baldwin plays the boss, he just likes to do the business not the problems so that's where Tina Fey's character Liz comes in, to take care of the issues. She has to handle the writers as well as the actors as they are all problem children.

On the show that Fey's character Liz writes the big star is Tracy Morgan, formerly of SNL, playing the character Tracy Jordan. This character doesn't have good sense and must be watched over constantly to avoid trouble. All of the other actors also display this lack of balance.

Tina and Alec play off each other perfectly and Tracy has found his niche. This is fun television and has matured gracefully as character development has happened over time. The DVD's make it easy to catch up to this season in order to enjoy it fully.
